0 for 2 with solid foods…

Recently I let Cody chew on some mushed banana which usually he just plays with and laughs. This time, he put some in his mouth, chewed it around for a bit then tried to swallow. It must have hit his gag reflex because he coughed a few times and then spit it up. Then tonight I let him chew on a little piece of bread and the same thing happened…except he was choking more. It was the scariest thing that has ever happened to me. Its not that the piece of the food is too big, I just think he’s not used to a chunk going down his throat. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?? Thanks!

  1. My grandson is going through the same thing. If he is not able to pick up foods by himself he may not be old enough to appreciate “chunks”. Introduce foods that he already knows the taste of. Go slow; if he gags on them today reintroduce them tomorrow, but only a few at a time. If he is interested in what you are eating offer him small bites of that. Each child is different. Good Luck and relax, he WILL eat solid food before he graduates from High School, Ha!!!
